They are retired soldiers: Ministry of Defense on Colombians involved in the assassination of the President of Haiti

This Thursday, it became known that the alleged perpetrators of the assassination of the President of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse, 53, were mercenaries and four of those captured have been identified and are of Colombian nationality.

“The alleged assassins of President Moïse intercepted by the Police in Pelerin shortly before 6:00 pm”, posted on Twitter the Secretary of State for Communication, Frantz Exantus.

The director of Noticias Caracol, Juan Roberto Vargas, reported via Blu Radio that four Colombians were among those captured and even gave their names:

– Alejandro Giraldo Zapata

– John Jairo Ramirez Gómez

– Victor Albeiro Piñera

– Mauricio Grosso Guarín

Regarding these leaders, the Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, assured that they would be retired soldiers of the Colombian army and that it already collaborates with the justice system of this country through Interpol.

“Today, Interpol officially requested information from the Colombian government and our national police on the alleged perpetrators of this act.”said the official. And I add: “Initially, the information indicates that they are Colombian citizens, retired from the National Army (…) to our Police and our Army so that they immediately collaborate in the development of this investigate and clarify these facts ”.

The number of Colombians involved may be higher

The director of the Haitian Police, Léon Charles, assured that the police killed at least seven other suspects of the crime. According to France 24, the murder was carried out by an order made up of 26 Colombians and two Americans of Haitian descent.

Apparently, 15 of these Colombians suspected of having participated in the crime are already under the power of the armed forces. Charles added that the operation which led to the capture of these people began on Wednesday evening. “These men were hiding in a house and we chased them away”, he claimed.

Scary forensic report

The President of Haiti, Jovenel Moise, received twelve gunshot wounds in the attack that ended his life on Wednesday, according to the justice of the peace in charge of the forensic report. Judge Carl Henry Destin told Le Nouvelliste newspaper that Moise’s body had twelve holes drilled with large caliber weapons and also 9 millimeters.

“We found him lying on his back: blue pants, white shirt stained with blood, open mouth, pierced left eye. We saw a bullet hole in the forehead, one in each nipple, three in the hip, one in the abdomen “said the justice of the peace. The person in charge of lifting the body said that besides Moise, the only person injured was his wife, Martine, who is hospitalized in Miami, United States.

The couple’s daughter was in the same room as her parents at the time of the attack, but managed to hide in her brother’s bedroom, who was also unharmed.

Haitian authorities reported Wednesday that Moise’s two children were in safe places, but they had not clarified their state of health.

The justice of the peace also assured that the office and the room of Moise had been “looted” by the attackers, who broke into the residence of the heavily armed president Wednesday morning.
