It was Karen Urban, secretary of the civil servant, who received the call at his office located in the office of the mayor of Coyoacán, according to the report.
The alleged “magistrate Carlos Aguirre”, as a potential criminal was identified, called and succeeded in confuse Urban, although in the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation there is no one with this name. He also mentioned that he needed to speak or leave a message for his alleged colleague, the magistrate. Monica Arali Soto Fregoso.
The secretary explained that her supervisor was not there when the man interrupted her and made up that she was receiving a call on another phone line. He claimed it was Soto Fregoso talking to him. “Carlos Aguirre” explained to the secretary that the magistrate had marked him because he had suffered an accident in his vehicle and he needed help because no tow truck was coming.
In the account he falsified, he said the magistrate provided him with the phone number of an insurance adjuster and asked him to contact him to resolve the issue.
Urban dialed the number provided by the potential scammer – the person who answered introduced himself as a representative of AXA Insurance and claimed that the auto policy had expired. She also mentioned that Soto Fregoso could therefore not be taken care of and that she was involved in a legal problem.
After raising the issue, the alleged AXA employee told him that he could “help” him, but only with the filing of the police payment: 41,987 pesos. Believing that she was helping her boss, the secretary made the delivery.
After the payment, Urban called the insurance expert’s take-over, who replied that more money was needed because due to the accident a person had been injured and medical costs had to be covered.
It was then that the secretary contacted Soto Fregoso’s private secretary to explain what was going on. So, they discovered the scam. The man confirmed that the magistrate had not been involved in any accident and that it was a fraud.
The Attorney General’s office in the capital is looking for the possible criminal. Subject was no longer answering phone calls.
