US prosecutors want the Mexican drug dealer Joaquin Guzman Loera, aka "El Chapo", to spend the rest of his life in jail.

The federal government said in documents filed Wednesday that the court should sentence Guzmán to the mandatory minimum set by law, namely life imprisonment plus 30 years.

Prosecutors also asked the judge to order the victims compensation, the amount of which remains to be determined.

Guzman 's lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, called the motion for judgment "superfluous" and said the compensation was "money in theory, not in reality". He added that "the government still does not locate a single cent" of the $ 12,600 million that Guzmán allegedly earned with the sale of narcotics and that prosecutors want to seize.

Guzmán was convicted in February of criminal conspiracy and drug trafficking.

Your sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 17th.
