Specialists exploded Sunday in the German city of Frankfurt, in the waters of the Main River, a 250 kg American bomb from the Second World War, detected Tuesday during a firefighter diving operation.
The explosion caused an enormous water source of more than 30 meters high, in addition to a roar, according to local media reports.
Initially, the bombers had planned to neutralize the detonator underwater with an explosive charge, although during the attempt, the bomb exploded, a possibility for which the experts had been prepared in advance.
For the detonation of the bomb, which still contained 120 kilograms of explosive material, it was moved from the discovery site near the Alte Brücke bridge (old bridge) and into deeper waters.
The detonation forced some 600 people to evacuate for security reasons.
