The latest victim of a building collapse in Florida has been identified, a relative said on Monday. more than a month after the collapse in the middle of the night which finally left 98 dead.
Estelle Hedaya, an outgoing 54-year-old woman who loved to travel, was the latest victim to be identified, ending what her relatives described as a tortured four-week wait. His little brother, Ikey Hedaya, confirmed the identity to the agency PA. He had provided DNA samples and visited the site twice to see the rescue efforts for himself.
“He always mentioned God when he struggled with something”He said, adding, “He had reached a different level of spirituality, which allowed him to excel in all other areas.”
His brother said he gets his strength from God, just like he saw his sister do in difficult times. A funeral was scheduled for Tuesday.
The site of the collapse of 24 of June in the Champlain Towers South building on the waterfront, was practically flattened in its entirety and the debris was transferred to a warehouse in Miami. Although forensic scientists are always on the job, even examining the debris in the warehouse, authorities said there were no more bodies to be found where the property was located.
Lifeguard teams found no evidence that those found dead survived the initial collapsesaid Fire Chief Alan Cominsky.
Rescue teams spent weeks battling the dangers of the debris, including an unstable section of the building swaying on top, a recurring fire and sweltering summer heat in Florida, and the whipping of storms. They examined over 13,000 tonnes of concrete pieces before completing the mission.
Authorities are still analyzing the opening of Collins Avenue, adjacent to what was once a 12-story residential building with more than 130 apartments, due to possible damage that may have occurred on the road as a result of the accident.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NITS) is investigating the causes of the collapse of the building, built in 1981, which can take years.
