They convict the false heiress who cheated New York

A jury meeting Thursday in New York accused Anna Sorokin, false German-Russian heiress, accused of multiple frauds and sentenced to over 15 years in prison. Netflix and HBO will tell the fascinating story of this film.

Sorokin, 28, has been charged with eight counts of embezzlement fraud by celebrities, bankers, artists and friends for nearly a year, between 2016 and 2017, for stealing $ 275,000.

"As the trial proved, Anna Sorokin committed white-collar crimes during her long deception," said Manhattan attorney Cyrus Vance in a statement.

With intelligent lies and incredible self-confidence, the young woman, who called herself Anna Delvey, asked several banks to lend her tens of thousands of dollars, traveled for free on a private plane and lived for month in luxury hotels in Manhattan, according to the New York Attorney's Office.

Daughter of a Russian truck dealer who moved to Germany at the age of 16, she also tried to get a $ 22 million loan to finance a private club in Manhattan that would house an art collection, a bar and a disco.

Sorokin, who used to wear Balenciaga and Alaïa clothes, frequented cream and cream in New York, was imprisoned a year and a half ago in the infamous Rikers Island prison.

His lawyer, Todd Spodek, said in his closing remarks Tuesday that "in a city that favors money and the appearance of money," the girl must, like singer Frank Sinatra in the beginning, resort unorthodox ways to access opportunities

Sorokin was only "saving time," Spodek told the New York Supreme Court jury. Her behavior was "unorthodox, unethical (…) but it's the life she chose," he added.

Prosecutor Catherine McCaw, for her part, asked the jury to convict Sorokin because she counted "lie after lie" to commit offenses: forgery of account statements and bank transfers, identity documents and even invented two accountants suspected.

"The evidence is overwhelming," said the prosecutor in her closing arguments.

Sorokin will be sentenced by Justice Diane Kiesel on May 9.
