They found the body of a murdered ex-US marine in a forest in Russia

Russian authorities on Saturday found the body of an American student who disappeared several days ago and arrested a man suspected of murder, local media reported.

The body of Catherine Serou, 34, was found in a wooded area near the town of Bor, 400 kilometers east of Moscow, according to reports.

According to media reports, Serou was last seen on Tuesday after getting into a car. Her mother, Beccy Serou, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, recounted NPR that his daughter had texted him saying: “I am in a car with a stranger. I hope I am not kidnapped”.

Search teams and volunteers were looking for Serou in a wooded area outside of town, where his phone signal was last picked up.

The US Embassy in Moscow has confirmed the death of the woman and said it was following the investigation by Russian authorities “closely”. Recently, Washington and Moscow agreed on the return of ambassadors from each country after the summit held by Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin.
