The case brought by the prosecutor Merlo against Peiti was decisive for the former regional prosecutor of Rosario Patricio Serjal and the prosecutor Gustavo Ponce Asahad has been removed from his post and imprisoned since last August.

This same investigation established that the prosecutor González had contacts with two Peiti operators in the gambling halls of the city of Reconquista, Avellaneda and Vera. Yesterday’s indictment made it clear that the accused prosecutor was fully aware that these people were engaging in illegal activity, that he did not report them and that if he had information that compromised them, he would share it with them.

Peiti representatives are called Axel Schilla and Darío Pérez. They are already accused of belonging to the underground gaming network and are summoned to attend the preliminary hearing of the trial, with the businessman, on April 7. According to the criminal record of the case, Schilla and Pérez administered illegal gambling dens in individualized rooms.

Prosecutor Merlo accused his peer of not having denounced or investigated these people despite knowing the activity they were carrying out. This happened, in his opinion, because he had an obvious close relationship with them. Telephone interventions, various calls are made between the accused and Rodrigo González where he, according to Merlo, He provided them with cover against an ongoing investigation, impending raid or telephone interception against them.

According to what was exposed at the hearing, they were verified 40 contacts for incoming and outgoing calls between August and the first days of October 2017 between González and the two Peiti operators. Also a road trip to Brazil in October that year that González shared with one of those people. Exit and entry into the country are verified by the National Directorate of Migration.

The second fact attributed to González comes from an investigation in 2018 into the disappearance of 703 files of which there is no trace. The evidence stems from the content of the phone calls and the testimonies. Merlo accused González of violating article 205 of the Criminal Code, which punishes the theft of evidence, in this case from files in his custody, with sentences ranging from one to four years in prison.

The Legislative Assembly preemptively suspended prosecutor González from his post last week. The decision was taken after a ruling by the Legislative Assembly’s Agreements Committee, based on a proposal from the General Prosecution Management Audit (MPA), which suggested disciplinary action against the official on February 23. The investigation against González was entirely developed by the AMP. The case against underground gambling developed in Melincué generated evidence to demand the violation of Senator Armando Traferri (PJ-San Lorenzo), which was rejected by the Senate.
