TOKYO – A premature baby weighing 268 grams at birth has left the hospital in good health and with more than three pounds after five months spent in intensive care, announced today the hospital's clinic Keio in Tokyo.

According to hospital records, never a baby born with such a low birth weight had left the maternity ward safely. "The survival rate of people born under 300 grams is very low, especially among men," said the hospital.
Medical authorities have indicated that the birth of the baby had occurred after only 22 weeks of pregnancy due to a growth problem. "When he was born, he was so small that he went into the hands of an adult," remember the hospital doctors, "they say.
"After five months of intensive care in the neonatal department, the baby weighed 3,238 kg, or about 3,238 grams," says the doctor's statement.
"I'm happy to have gained so much weight, honestly, I did not think I could survive," the mother told the press.
"Even when a baby is born very young, it is possible that he can leave his motherhood in good health," said Takeshi Arimitsu, the child's doctor.
The previous cases of healthy hospital discharge of baby boys weighing less than 300 grams were recorded in Germany in 2009 (274 grams), Japan in 2009 (297 grams), in 2011 (294 grams) and in 2015. (289 g.).
