The columnist “was intercepted as she left her home to carry out a personal procedure”, after covering yesterday’s protests in Cuba “and in particular those which took place in Havana,” the newspaper reported.

ABC said that “this is not the first time that Camila Acosta has been detained by the Cuban regime for her critical information on the government” and added that Cuban journalists Iris Mariño, in Camagüey, and Orelvis Cabrera, in Matanzas, were also arrested.

Likewise, the US newspaper El Nuevo Herald said that after yesterday’s protests, journalists Maykel González Vivero and Henry Constantine were captured.

On the other hand, ABC assured that Acosta had suffered last night “the blocking of WhatsApp and the Internet” and that this situation continued on Monday.

The NGO NetBlocks has confirmed “the partial interruption of social networks and messaging platforms in Cuba” as of today, according to Cubanet.

The portal added that “specific restrictions are likely to limit the flow of information from Cuba after the widespread protests” yesterday.
