After 21 days of waiting, it was possible to reach the point of the Neira mine (Caldas) where 11 miners died trapped in a chasm, which was flooded after a flood in the Cauca River which occurred as a result of the heavy rains that fall in this first rainy season in the country.

In the Noticias RCN television news, they indicated that Around midnight on Friday, the rescue of the first corpse of the workers who died in this mine was carried out. in the Coffee Axis.

On the news, they recalled that these people were carrying out extraction work 6 meters underground, when the waters of the Cauca exceeded the overflow quota and they flooded the mine with the workers inside.

Since then, work has started to save the miners, but bad weather has made it difficult to locate these people, until Friday night when they managed to find the exact location of the bodies.

As indicated by the government of Caldas, rescue work is carried out with psychosocial work for the relatives of the deceased in the abyss they have been waiting for nearly three weeks near the mine.

The Ministry of Environment and the Secretariat of the Government of Caldas, as well as the Government of Risaralda, the Office of the Mayor of Neira and the Office of the Mayor of Quinchía have worked together on these tasks.

As part of the victim assistance process, the departmental government facilitated the delivery of emergency humanitarian aid (AHE) to the families of the missing. In addition, they will carry out personalized visits to individually monitor the affected population.
