Paraguayan national police seized 13,800 liters of acetone, chemical precursor for the production of cocaine, in two operations in the Chaco region during which at least nine people were arrested, most of them at a cattle ranch on the border with Bolivia. In addition, seized 1,400 kilograms of cocaine in another proceeding.
The seizures came on the day 23 tons of cocaine from Paraguay were seized in Germany and Belgium, the largest cache of the substance seized in Europe.
The largest amount of acetone, a total of 10,000 liters, was in 50 drums on board a truck stopped on a local road in the town of Boquerón, and in which the driver was arrested, as reported by the Interior Ministry.
The second operation was carried out in a cattle farm located in the town of Agua Dulce, department of Alto Paraguay, about 90 kilometers from the border with Bolivia, where 19 drums containing 3,800 liters of acetone were seized. In this operation they were arrested eight people, according to the source.

According to early reports, the drugs were in 42 jute bags, located in the El Tigre ranch, in the department of Alto Paraguay. According to the same media, a small plane, 500 liters of aviation fuel, two large trucks, cell phones and documents were also seized.
Raids linked to drugs sent to Germany
During four raids on Wednesday afternoon, agents of the National Anti-Drugs Secretariat (Senad) and the prosecution, registered four sites in the metropolitan area of Asunción, as part of the investigation into the shipment of 16 tonnes of cocaine to Hamburg.
One of the premises searched was a depot of the company Tupa paints, which according to the Senad, “records a good number of shipments to Europe since the middle of last year“.
For his part, the Prosecutor added that the raids found acrylic paint containers similar to the cargo seized in Germany.
This action against international drug trafficking enabled Belgium to also seize an additional seven tonnes of cocaine in a parallel operation.
Paraguay, the largest producer of marijuana in South America, is considered transit country organizations that traffic cocaine from Bolivia, Colombia or Peru to overseas countries.
In October last year, the national police seized in the river port of Villeta, on the outskirts of Asunción, around 3,000 kilograms of cocaine which had allegedly entered Paraguay by air, coming from Bolivia or Colombia, and which were destined for Israel.
