The postponement of the two meetings came after the shooting in which young Daunte Wright, 20, was killed by police in a suburb of Minneapolis on Sunday. The young man’s mother said the crowd her son had called to tell him that the police had ordered him to stop their vehicle, according to local media. Katie Wright said she heard officers tell her son to drop the phone and then one of the officers cut the call. Soon after, his son’s girlfriend told him that her son had been killed.

According to the Brooklyn Center Police Department, officers ordered the driver of the vehicle to be arrested for traffic violation. When they found out that he had an outstanding arrest warrant, they tried to arrest him. When the driver tried to get back to his vehicle, one of the men in uniform shot him dead and the young man died at the scene.

Wright’s death comes at a time when Minneapolis is experiencing moments of maximum tension due to the lawsuit against a former white cop, Derek Chauvin, accused of the death of George Floyd, which resumed on Monday. After two weeks of very intense hearings – which many TV channels broadcast live – the process is expected to be extended at least until next Monday, presiding judge Peter Cahill has said.
