In the Quebrada Internacional region, near the bridge over the Itiyuro river, the natural border between Argentina and Bolivia, in Salta, a thick tube was discovered through which edible oil was conveyed from Salvador Mazza to Yacuiba, across the border.

The same gendarmerie troops who deactivated this contraband destroyed two underground bridges created to escape controls in the illegal passage of goods of all kinds. They held up three people and seized guns, ammunition, security cameras, 100 kilograms of soybeans and stolen auto parts, among other items of interest.

Sources from the federal security forces reported that troops from Squadron 61 “Salvador Mazza”, with the support of staff from Mobile Detachment 5 and staff from the AFIP-Customs delegation “Pocitos”, raided, by order of the Federal Court of Tartagal, a farm located in the area known as “The door of Beracca”, where the men in uniform detected a tubular conduit that was underground and continued its journey, crossing the Itiyuro ravine towards Bolivia.

In the presence of witnesses, they searched the property and found a 16 gauge shotgun with two 14 gauge and 16 gauge shotguns, three movable UHF radial bases, eight security cameras, a license plate, a block engine with an entry request, and 100 kilos of soy contained in burlap bags.

They also found that there was a pipe two inches in diameter and 30 meters long, and a polymer tube two and a half inches and 100 meters long in black color, which were used for smuggling edible oil from Argentina to San José de Pocitos, in the neighboring country.

As a result of the procedure and investigative tasks, the gendarmes found that the traffickers were using Tankers loaded with edible oil, taking advantage of the conditions offered by the elevated terrain on the Argentinian side, where they developed a system with pipes – partly buried up to a meter – to evade controls.

The court ordered the seizure of these items and the destruction of two bridges that crossed the Quebrada Internacional, unauthorized crossings used for smuggling goods.

Drug removal

Meanwhile, 267 kilometers south of Salvador Mazza, in General Pizarro’s town, staff from the Las Lajitas and Joaquín V. González sections of Squad 45 noticed something strange in a VW Gol Trend that they had stopped for a routine checkpoint inspection on Route 5. The strong smell of gasoline alerted them that the tank cover had recently been removed. Inside the tank were 40 packages containing 27,955 kilograms of cocaine. Driver Gol, who was heading for Tucumán province, was arrested.
