Two Texas men died Friday while trying to jump from an open drawbridge with their car.

Louisiana State Police said the incident occurred shortly after 2 am on the Black Bayou Bridge, six miles south of the town of Lake Charles.

According to investigators, the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic to allow the pbadage of a ship along the Intracoastal waterway.

Witnesses testified that the pbadenger of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze raised a barrier and that both occupants took the vehicle to the raised portion of the bridge.

Then they backed off and accelerated to try to jump with the car on the other side. The vehicle fell to the water and sank.

State police said that Alejandro Cazares, 23, of McAllen, and Roberto Alejandro Moreno, 32, of Edinburg, had died on the scene.
