Duane Sands, health minister of the Bahamas, warned that the number of victims of the pbadage of Hurricane "Dorian" in the country would continue to increase and become "overwhelming".

"There is no doubt the number will continue to increase and will be much higher," he said of the 30 confirmed deaths so far.

"It will be much higher," he said in statements to local broadcaster Guardian Radio. "I think it will be overwhelming."

Sands said the country would bring new funeral homes while refrigerated storage of the bodies found so far.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the hurricane touched down today at Cape Hatteras on the island barrier off the coast of North Carolina. In recent days, Dorian touched the Atlantic coast from Florida to the Carolinas before his eye hit the ground.

Dorian is expected to weaken slowly over the next few days, even though he will maintain the category of hurricanes as he moves along the North Carolina coast.
