In order to end the homelessness crisis in the city of Los Angeles, United States, the government has opened a new neighborhood in the city of Tarzana. It is a neighborhood that has 76 small houses with over 140 beds available, all paid for by the local government.

So far, this seems like one more plan to help people on the streets get out of this place. However, it is a very special neighborhood: all the houses are barely 6 square meters in size and can be built in just an hour and a half.

With a cost of $ 6,500, each six square meter unit can be assembled in just 90 minutes. The community where the houses were built has several common amenities, such as a laundry room, restrooms, 24/7 security and an on-site dog walking park. In addition, those who reside there also have the option of receiving three meals a day and accessing health care services as well as Mental Health.

The objective and inauguration of the project

The project was inaugurated by District Councilor Bob Blumenfield and Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission. The idea is that the houses can be a temporary solution for the people who are on the streets of this city in the United States. Each of them is equipped with two beds and shelves to store your belongings. In addition, the accommodations have air conditioning and heating.

How does the admission process work?

The admission process begins with a hot shower and the delivery of a plate of food. Next, a plan is developed to determine how the new resident can be assisted. The goal is for those who enter the complex to live to work on this plane for as long as necessary. Anyway, in principle, they can only stay six months in the 6m2 houses built in the Los Angeles complex.

According to the Hope of the Valley organization, the houses are designed as provisional because its inhabitants generally find a job and permanent accommodation within a few months.

Los Angeles’ first series of “Little Houses” debuted in early 2021 and several more have followed. In recent years, similar initiatives have sprung up in other parts of California and Seattle.
