This Tuesday Andres Pastrana He was heard before the Truth Commission as a former president, as a political leader, as a diplomat, as a journalist, as a victim and as an analyst of the armed conflict.

The conservative leader in his introduction decided to hand over to the director of the Commission, Francisco de Roux, a letter that, according to him, brothers Miguel and Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela gave him in which they state that, “Samper was aware of the proceeds of drug trafficking money in the countryside ”.

Here is the content of the letter Pastrana delivered:

Respected Mr. President

We have learned through various means of intelligence reports that link us, in one way or another, to Dr ERNESTO SAMPER and other personalities in public life, who are behind strikes, blockades and plots. policies that wreak havoc and destabilize the government. ; nothing more absurd and false than this statement.

As for your question, we want to answer you with the sincerity that we can achieve at the moment.

Even if it is true that at one point in our life we made the mistake of contributing to Dr ERNESTO SAMPER PIZANO and his most immediate collaborators, with the money for his presidential campaign. It was NOT behind their backs, let alone the backs of campaign managers as they proclaim in public squares. We did this only with the wish that a liberal government, led by Drs ERNESTO SAMPER AND HORACIO SERPA, would lead the country on better paths based on progress, social justice and the good of all Colombians.

It is unfortunate to see how the former president, in his recent book (page 86, paragraphs 2 ″ and 3 ″), becomes the “cynic of reason”, constructing a fallacy, which does not start from the truth, but from the truth. ‘a careful silence which we have saved.

In this spirit, we would like to express to you, Mr. President, that we have kept this cautious silence in the face of all these situations, including the champagne toast of Dr ERNESTO SAMPER and his wife on the day of the sample, the permanent swearing. that we receive when they want to demonstrate the impossible, and many other useless acts which little by little relieve us of the obligation to contribute by this silence to the disarmament of minds.

Finally, Mr. President, we want to tell you that we are not going to allow them to continue using us to wash away their guilt, and that we will not need any benefit to ease our grief, indeed, we will not. would not accept, unmask the chain of lies used by certain “standard bearers” of social morality and their speeches where personal interest prevails over national interest.

The letter the former president gave to the Truth Commission is dated June 12, 2000.

The former president told the Commission: “I am here, before the Truth Commission, convinced that only the truth can achieve peace (…) I am here to fulfill a duty not only legal, but also moral. I am here, because the new generations cannot be left without a part of history and the victims and the future generations they have the right to know and to know the enormous efforts of many to achieve peace “.

“First I am here, because I am convinced by peace and no one doubts that I have invested all my political capital in its research and I know that without the truth we will not find peace (…) C ‘ it is true that I did not make peace, despite all the efforts that we made, but all that is lived now is in part what we sow “, said the ex-president.
