Samsung Electronics sold Friday the world's first smartphone with 5G technology, coinciding with the launch in South Korea of ​​the first national coverage of this technology, called to revolutionize communications.

South Korea, one of the most "connected" countries in the world, launched the first fifth generation (5G) national mobile phone network on Wednesday night two days ahead of schedule, via the intermediary of three South Korean operators.

South Korea must fight with the United States, China and Japan to get on the podium of the deployment of this ultra-fast network.

Speculation in recent days over the anticipated launch by US operator Verizon of its own 5G service have forced South Korean operators to make a hasty decision for a night launch, the southern news agency said. -Korean Yonhap.

A few hours later, Verizon began implementing 5G for mobile phones in Chicago and Minneapolis.

Samsung Electronics, the world leader in smartphones, joined South Korea's technological feat on Friday to launch its all-new Galaxy S10 5G.

The three mobile operators SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus have organized special events throughout the city of Seoul to celebrate the launch of this latest version of the Galaxy range, whose base model costs 1.39 million won ( EUR 1,090).

The new technology gives the Internet a speed 20 times higher than that of 4G, which allows, for example, to download a movie in less than a second.

Like 3G and 4G, 5G marks a new stage in terms of connectivity, especially for objects. Among the most anticipated innovations are driverless vehicles, connected health, smart cities, urban transport and security.

Only a handful of people could have the 5G since Wednesday, date on which this Friday is now available to all South Koreans, on the occasion of the launch of the Galaxy S10 5G.
