At least 5,000 people were evacuated this Sunday from their homes in La Palma, one of the Canary Islands where the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted, it has been officially reported,

The Interior Ministry said more than 200 members of the security forces traveled to the area of the eruption by helicopter.The army was also mobilized to deal with the incident, the authorities said.
As the lava continues to move slowly towards the coast of La Palma, overflowing some streets and reaching the doors of some houses, the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, arrived on the island closely monitor the emergency, according to Spanish television (TVE).
