Three people died this morning in the fire of a supermarket south of Santiago during the looting in the Chilean capital.

The incident occurred in a local of the municipality of San Bernardo, in the south of the country, confirmed the mayor of this metropolitan area, Karla Rubilar, in statements to Bio Bio Radio.

The official explained that firefighters' volunteers had found two charred bodies instead, while a third had been seriously injured and transferred to a health center where they had found his death. He published the same support on his website.

"We do not have clear information on the circumstances (the deaths occurred), but we must unfortunately report that three deaths in this fire have clearly hurt us a lot"said the mayor.

According to the firemen, the two bodies found dead in the supermarket correspond to two women, while the third victim would be a man who was reportedly transferred to El Pino Hospital in San Bernardo.
