Throw for evacuations after explosions and earthquakes in Nevados de Chillán

The Mayor of Biobío, Jorge Ulloa drove a meeting of the Emergency Technical Committee on Saturday evening to badyze the latest recorded explosions and earthquakes in the volcanic complex Nevados de Chillán which caused concern in the region.

At the end of the meeting with the regional Onemi and representatives of the civil protection system, the mayor reported that, for the time being, there will be no d & # 39; evacuation in the region that will depend on the evolution of the volcanic complex in the coming hours.

In addition, Mayor Ulloa indicated that the yellow alert is maintained in the municipalities of Pinto, Coihueco and San Fabián the nearest Nevados of Chillán, while the l '; Sernageomin's technical alert is still orange.

According to the report given by Sernageomin, at 3:30 pm on Saturday in Nicanor crater there was an earthquake of magnitude 3.9 local, at a depth of 1, 4 kilometers and with an explosion that was felt a kilometer further. In Friday evening, at 23:36 in the same crater, an earthquake of 3.7 degrees at 0.43 km depth and a similar explosion was recorded.

Onemi added that the climatic conditions did not allow to have a clear trace of Saturday afternoon's explosion . However, part of it could be observed with the help of the installed thermal camera, with which maximum temperatures of 300 ° C were measured

According to Onemi, the two explosions suggest that the volcanic system could increase its level of activity according to the scenarios shown in the reports of volcanic activity (RAV) published daily.
