After finishing among the top five at Quicken National Loans, Tiger Woods is back this week looking for his first win in league since the US Open 2008
The five-time world champion competes in the third golf championship, The Open Championship, this week at Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland.
Tiger played in the Open in 2015, missing the cut and finishing 137th. His career at Carnoustie includes a T47 at the Scottish Open 1995, he missed the cup the following year, and then finished T7 at the 1999 Open and T12 at the Open 2007.
Tiger leaves at 22:21 ET with Hideki Matsuyama and Russell Knox. Follow along for the shot-by-shot badysis of his opening round.
Hole 11 – By 4
It's more like that. Tiger rips a dart in the middle of the fairway of the tee. His approach is safe in the wind, landing on the back half of the green to the left of the cup. And it's gone! Tiger rolls it away, perfectly playing the pause from left to right. Return to 2-under thru 11 .
Hole 10 – Par 4
Well, this one was not great. He finds a bunker and it looks like he will have a hard time getting out. He is at the limit of the game so Tiger hits this one in the fairway. Tiger's third shot on the putting green is pretty good given the circumstances. He knew since the jump that this putt was going to be missing while he was going away. Tap-in bogey. 1-under thru 10 .
Thoughts at the turn
It could be the Tiger weekend. Historically, he played well at Carnoustie and he played very well in the first quarter. If he had enjoyed his monster training on the par 5 and done more than normal, he would flirt with the leaders with nine holes to play. His iron shots were phenomenal, and he did not make any of his gameplan works perfectly. Let's see what the back has to offer.
Hole 9 – Par 4
This tee shot is not as good as the others, but his iron finds the fairway to the right. His approach remains on the right side and misses the green, rolling in a bunker. Another solid with not much green to work with, rest less than 10 feet. He drops the putt and closes the front nine 2 under normal .
Hole 8 – Par 3
Nothing fancy here for Tiger, finding the front of the green and leaving a long look on birdie. The good speed, the bad line because Tiger misses it. Easy by. 2-under thru 8
Hole 7 – Par 4
Another Tiger iron for the tee and this one is flying slowly and very far on the right side of the fairway. The pin is hidden at the rear right and it plays the approach safely, landing in the middle of the green. Tiger gave this other a good ride, but it just comes a little short. By. 2-under thru 7 .
Hole 6 – By 5
Tiger shoots the pilot for the first time and he smashes it in the direction of the driveway. The ball landed 274 yards and rolled another 91 to finish 365 yards in the middle of the fairway. Wow! His second shot is not as good. Tiger went for the green but ran short and left in a bunker. Its output is great, get to within 10 feet of the cut. Her birdie putt misses on the left, leaving for a disappointing tap-in pair after an incredible drive. 2-under thru 6 .
Hole 5 – By 4
Another iron, another fairway for Tiger. He did not like his approach, and for good reason. He loses it to the right, out of the green. Fortunately, his bullets rolled on a hill and in a flat area where he will have a decent chance to get on and off. If his ball had stayed on the hill, he would have had an uncomfortable position and a ridge to play on the putting green. What an effort here. Tiger goes with the putter and plays perfectly the hills and the slopes, but lets the putt a short turn. By. 2-under thru 5 .
Hole 4 – By 4
Another tee iron for Tiger, and this one could have been bad. He plays the contours of the fairway and hits a hill to avoid a burn. Useful approach here from Tiger. Pleading for her ball to go down, she rolls within 5 feet of the cup for another birdie chance. It's number two! Tiger drops the putt easily, 2-under thru 4 .
Hole 3 – Par 4
Tiger goes back to the No. 3 and lands this one in the good rough, but he takes a friendly kick in the fairway. Tiger's second shot is on the right side of the green. Well, not great, here TW effort. His putt is missed on the left, but it's an easy put-in. 1-under thru 3 .
Hole 2 – By 4
This is a 3-wood on tee for Tiger, and judging by the twirl club, he likes it. Mid-left side of the fairway, another good start. Tiger plays this one safely, landing the ball high on his approach in the middle of the green. He will have a long look at birdie. Tiger did a try but just misses up and to the right a few inches. By. 1-under thru 2 .
Hole 1 – Par 4
Tiger leaves with an iron from the tee and drops it off in the middle of the fairway. It is incredibly dry at Carnoustie, so he rolled on the fairway. Expect Big Cat to show mbadive driving figures this week. At a distance of 134 yards, Tiger 's approach lands on the right front edge and heads to the hole, leaving a superb eye on Birdie on the BANG number 1. It's a birdie on the number 1 for Tiger, 1-under thru 1 .
What's on Tiger's neck …?
Tiger appeared on Thursday wearing the KT band on his neck sending social media on fire with his health. Steve DiMeglio, author of the US TODAY Sports Golf, said:
By his side: @TigerWoods woke up with stiff neck, taped KT and s & # 39; is quickly felt better.
