By Decree 234/2019, the government ordered the closure of the Argentine Embbady in the Republic of Saint Lucia, a small island of 178 000 inhabitants located in the Caribbean Sea.
According to the recitals of the standard, this measure is part of the plan for optimizing the representation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship. The decree also determines the reorganization of the "Diplomatic Contest" of St. Lucia, the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Commonwealth of Dominica. Now all these territories they will be badigned to the Embbady of the Republic of Barbados.
The measure was duly communicated to the governments of all the above-mentioned States without any of them expressing an "express opposition".
The diplomatic headquarters of Saint Lucia, located in the city of Castries, It was opened in 2013 under the government of Cristina Kirchner. The Embbady of the Republic of Barbados reopened the same year.
According to Decree 4/2013, which also bears the signature of the late former Foreign Minister, Hector Timerman, the measure was aimed at "reaffirming Argentina's commitment to strengthening relations with the country."
