The Inter-American Court of Human Rights will meet today in Buenos Aires, as it must verify compliance with the five sentences handed down in cases concerning the country. According to the rules of procedure of the Inter-American Court, Judge Eugenio Zaffaroni will participate in one of the debates of the six cases that will be dealt with.

The inauguration of the 61st session of special sessions is scheduled at 18:00 at the headquarters of the country's Supreme Court. Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie, Justice Minister Germán Garavano, President of the Supreme Court Carlos Rosenkrantz and President of the Inter-American Court, Mexican Eduardo Ferrer Mac-Gregor Poisot, will accompany the Minister of Justice. opening of the extraordinary session.

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights has accepted the invitation of the national government to proceed with the evaluation of the causes that involve Argentina. The conference will take place from today to Friday and, after the inauguration on the premises of the Court, international lawyers will continue their work in the premises of the Sheraton Hotel. All members of the court will be present, but it has been reported that Zaffaroni "does not participate in the knowledge or deliberation" of cases involving Argentina, as provided by the regulations of the entity.

Among the cases to be treated is that of Iván Torres Millacura, who died in October 2003 in Comodoro Rivadavia after being harbaded by the police. Millacura was a 26-year-old Chilean construction worker. They will also work on the case of Sebastián Furlan, who, at the age of 14, had a skull fracture in 1988 and serious brain damage that left him disabled. The accident occurred at an abandoned military camp in Ciudadela while playing football with a crossbar. The trial lasted ten years and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights will badess compliance with three pending remedies.

They will also evaluate the case of Sebastián Fornerón, in which they declared that the state had violated his essential rights of father and daughter to live together as a family, in addition to denying the right to identity and to guarantee a process leading to the junction between Fornerón and the minor. Fornerón's daughter was given for adoption without her consent and the father fought to get it back all these years.

Another case is that of the enforced disappearance of Adolfo Garrido and Raúl Baigorria, which occurred in April 1990, after being arrested by Mendoza police. Finally, the case of Bueno Alves, kidnapped and tortured by a federal police force in 1988, will be discussed.

Jurists will also discuss a case of Paraguay on the enforced disappearance and torture of Juan Francisco Arrom Suhurt and Anuncio Martí Méndez, in 2002.
