Trump, forced to present his imposs …

During his election campaign, former US President Donald Trump promised to release his tax returns. However, he never did, thus turning himself into first president since Richard Nixon to keep them hidden. This Monday, finally, the United States Supreme Court has decided to hand them over to the Manhattan prosecutor, Cyrus Vance, who had requested them,.

In July, the Supreme Court had already ruled justified the request of the prosecutor Vance, a Democrat claiming taxes from former president from 2011 to 2018 at Trump’s accounting firm, but the decision was appealed by lawyers for the tycoon. This week, Justice rejected the appeal and put an end to the Republican’s plans to hide the documents.

After the ruling was released, Vance released a brief statement in which he announced that “the work continues.” Trump, for his part, has not yet spoken about it, although in previous statements he claims to have been the subject of a “witch hunt”.

Criminal behavior?

What the prosecutor is looking for in these documents remains an investigation secret. At first he focused on a payment paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels and another alleged Trump lover to buy her silence, in violation of US election finance law.

However, recently the prosecution suggested that the investigation could be broader and extend to “possible criminal behavior within the Trump organization”, the company which brings together the trades of the real estate magnate and which is not listed on the stock market.

According to the American press, Prosecutor investigators recently interviewed Deutsche Bank employees, the financial support of Trump and his holding company for years, as well as the employees of his insurance company, Aon.

They also interviewed Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael cohen -which remains under house arrest-, since he declared to Congress that the former president and his company artificially inflated or reduced the value of their assets to obtain bank loans or reduce taxes. If the suspicions are confirmed, the case could lead to Trump’s imprisonment.

The former president is also under investigation by Democratic New York State Attorney Letitia James, who is following the case of allegations of bank fraud and insurance fraud in the part of a civil lawsuit.
