President Donald Trump said Saturday that he was "resolutely in favor of life", although favorable to exceptions for termination of pregnancy in case of rape or incest, after several states Americans have approved severe restrictions on abortion.

"As most people know, and for those who would like to know, I am strongly in favor of life, with three exceptions: rape, incest and protection of the mother's life", tweeted Trump.

The scandalous billionaire Trump, twice divorced, won the evangelical votes during his 2016 campaign by promising to appoint anti-abortion judges to the Supreme Court.

Since then, he has brought two conservative judges to court – Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh – altering the balance of the body of nine magistrates.

In addition to Alabama, Missouri has performed illegal abortions from the eighth week of pregnancy.

And Georgia, Ohio, Mississippi, Kentucky, Iowa and North Dakota have laws prohibiting abortion from the moment a fetal heartbeat is detected.

Bans should be blocked in the courts, but those who defend them plan to appeal against this type of decision until the cases reach the Supreme Court.
