Trump's national security advisor urged Maduro to accept an amnesty and retreat to a beach

"I wish Nicolás Maduro and his senior advisers a long and peaceful retirement, living on a beautiful beach somewhere far from Venezuela", the president's advisor, Donald Trump, claimed on Twitter.

"They should," he added, "take advantage of the amnesty offered by President (Juan) Guaidó and move on – the sooner the better."

Bolton is one of the leading ideologues within Trump's government of the country's strategy for Venezuela. In fact, under his recommendation, the United States was the first country in the world to recognize Mr. Guaidó as legitimate president after the public oath that he made public on January 23. He has repeatedly urged Maduro to cede power to the opposition.

Trump and Bolton himself have warned in recent days that "all options are on the table", including the military, to force the Maduro exit.

After his self-proclamation, Guaidó paved the way for an amnesty decreed for Maduro and his collaborators, as well as for the military, if they facilitated a change of government.
