Two 47-year-old twin brothers who were admitted to the same hospital in Brazil died from the coronavirus two days apart and after one month of treatment, when they were not at-risk patients.

The incident took place in the municipality of Ponta Grossa, located in the state of Paraná, in the midst of the health crisis due to the pandemic due to the lack of response from the state.

Genilton and Jailson Rodrigues had no preconditions at the time of contracting the coronavirus. Genilton, the first to be hospitalized on February 14 at Centro San Camilo, was married with three children and owned a market and a bakery. They admitted it when one of his lungs was compromised.

Jailson was married, self-employed in the sanitation business, and was also a gospel singer. He was hospitalized on February 21, a week after his brother. The situation was complicated as he did not have health insurance and there was no hospital bed available for him, so the family admitted him to the same private hospital where his brother was, reported Brazilian media G1. Jailson died on March 15, two days after his brother.

Genilton was admitted to a room on a ventilator. He entered the hospital’s ICU (intensive care unit) on the second day of his hospitalization, after suffering early morning cardiac arrest. “He remained in intensive care until March 13, when he died. It was our fight for 28 days, ”his wife, Zenei Pepe Rodrigues, told UOL media.

Added to the pain of the two deaths is the economic cost: the family will have to pay 110,000 reais (1.8 million Argentinian pesos), for which a solidarity fundraising has been made. Jailson’s wife also put their car up for sale to raise funds.
