Two million deaths from the coronavirus. And cash …
The covid-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus first detected in late 2019 in China, has passed the two million death mark worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.
By September 28, the number of deaths from the disease had reached the milestone of one million, with Latin America and the Caribbean in the head.
The figure has doubled in three and a half months, which shows that the transmission of the virus is on the increase in regions and countries where it seemed to be under control: Europe is now the region with the most deaths.
The milestone of two million deaths comes shortly after vaccination programs start. The World Health Organization says herd immunity is not expected to be achieved in 2021.
The map we include here, automatically updated twice a day, shows the pandemic figures country by country.
