UK has detected six cases of the Brazilian variant of COVID-19: they lost track of one of those infected

British health authorities are trying to locate one of six people infected with the Manaus (Brazil) variant of the coronavirus, given the concern that vaccines may not be as effective against this strain.

Sunday’s report said three cases had already been located in England and three in Scotland, but the identity of any of those six could not be found. According to Health, the unidentified person did not complete the tracing file when he underwent a covid-19 test in February, so it’s unclear where he is.

That’s why Health asks anyone who has not received the result of a COVID-19 test on February 12 or 13, to contact the authorities.

This variant, known as P1, was first detected in people who traveled to Japan from Manaus last January.

UK Vaccine Minister Nadhim Zahawi told the network Sky that the strain is similar to that found in South Africa, so it is feared that it is more contagious and “worrying”.

Of the three cases in England, two correspond to the same family from Gloucestershire (western England) who traveled to Brazil in February, before the government imposed restrictions on travelers from that country.

The three cases in Scotland correspond to people who returned to this region from Brazil but who made a stopover in Paris and London, according to the authorities.

The government indicated that it had already informed the World Health Organization (WHO) of the discovery in the United Kingdom of these cases of the Manaus variant.

The British leader vetoed flights from several South American countries, Portugal and South Africa, in order to contain the distribution of these new variants.

The National Health Service (NHS) is vaccinating with Pfizer / BioNTech and Oxford / AstraZeneca preparations.

The Government has set itself the objective of vaccinating, at least with the first of the two doses of the preparation, those over 50 years old by April 15 and the adult population by July 31.
