The increase in cases of the delta variant continues to lead to the number of infections in the UK at levels not seen since winter, even now that the majority of the adult population is fully vaccinated.

With over 60% of adults nationwide receiving their second dose, there is an increase optimism in connection with the vaccination campaign broke the link between the number of cases and deaths.

However, the recent increase in cases threatens the Boris Johnson administration’s plans to reopen, and while vaccines appear to be effective against the latter variant, the increase poses the threat of new changes.

UK Covid-19 Cases Rise Despite Record Vaccination

The UK reported more than 16 thousand new cases, the most since February 6. The increase has in turn led to a steady rise in the number of people hospitalized, reaching more than 1,500 for the first time since the end of April. However, daily deaths remain relatively low.

The delta variant, first identified in India, is now the dominant virus strain in the UK. Its spread forced the UK government last week to delay plans to end most pandemic restrictions.
