United States: A policeman was killed in a shootout in front of the Pentagon | There are wounded

A policeman died on Tuesday and two other people were injured after a shooting outside the Pentagon., as specified by three police sources to the international media CNN, who clarified that “the circumstances of the shooting are not yet clear”. The Arlington County Fire Department confirmed that at least three people were shot dead instantly.

The shooting, which caused unrest in the country, occurred this morning, near a platform where buses stop which is at the subway station a few meters from the Pentagon. The headquarters of the US Department of Defense remained closed for about two hours, but has already been reopened.

Employees were called by loudspeaker to stay inside the building at around 10:40 a.m. (local time), after several gunshots were heard in the metro and bus station.

“The Pentagon is currently on lockdown due to an incident at the transit center. We ask the public to avoid the area,” the building security force said in a statement posted on its Twitter account.

About 40 minutes later, the force determined the scene of the incident to be safe, without providing any details of what happened.

The state of alert was lifted around 12:10 p.m. (4:10 p.m. GMT), but the closest exits to the metro and bus station remained closed until further notice.

Currently, the area surrounding the Pentagon appears to be under control, with dozens of police, medical and emergency services present, the Sputnik news agency reported. Due to the ongoing police investigation, metro lines have been ordered not to stop at the Ministry of Defense station.

Official sources reported that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin “was not in the building at the time of the incident” because, along with Chief of Staff General Mark Milley, they were at the White House for a weekly meeting with President Joe Biden.
