In the aftermath of the incidents that sparked an institutional crisis in the United States, federal prosecutors filed a complaint against 55 people involved in the break-in of Congress by supporters of Donald Trump.

The Attorney General for the District of Columbia, Michael sherwin, said 40 of the cases have gone to Washington Superior Court and said many of them include charges of illegally entering certain areas of the Capitol.

Donald Trump supporters stormed the Capitol when the House of Representatives and Senate held a joint session to verify Joe Biden’s victory in the November 3 election. Trump had previously reiterated his fraud allegations.

The assault forced the session to be suspended for several hours and led the authorities to impose a curfew in a context of enormous tension.
