United States surpassed 700,000 coronavirus deaths

More than 700,000 people have died from coronavirus in the United States since the start of the pandemicAccording to data from Johns Hopkins University, a figure roughly equivalent to the Washington City Population.

This grim figure is a reminder that hundreds of Americans continue to die from COVID-19 every day, despite the vaccination campaign.

In absolute terms, The United States is the country in the world with the highest number of victims of this pandemic, ahead of Brazil, with more than 596,000 deaths; India, with more than 448,000 dead; and Mexico, with 277,000 dead.

The more contagious Delta variant is responsible for a large part of the deaths in recent months.

The vaccination that began in December in the United States reached its highest rate in April, with around four million doses administered per day, but slowed down considerably.

Currently, 64% of the US population, or 215 million people, has received at least one dose of the three vaccines licensed in the country, according to health officials.
