The president conducted a medical study on Friday that confirmed the bad news. "Today, the planned diagnostic intervention was performed where the presence of a malignancy was confirmed.The final report will be available in the coming days," says the letter signed by the Oncologist Mario Zelarayán, doctor of the president.

Vázquez had already argued that he had detected a pulmonary nodule and that it was perhaps a lung cancer, confirmed diagnosis.

"He is in excellent condition and has pbaded the procedure without complications"says the statement issued by the presidency.

"Fortunately, it's very good, he recovered very well and the procedure could be done without complications, he's awake, he's eating, he's barbaric", insured Jorge Vazquez, his brother, in Telemundo.

The wife of Tabaré Vázquez, Maria Auxiliadora Delgado, died at the end of June at the age of 82 years.
