US issued ‘do not travel’ recommendation to UK due to increase in COVID-19 cases

the state department from the United States and Centers for Disaster Control and Prevention (CDC) issued Monday maximum alert levels against travel to UK, due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in this country.

Both agencies have placed the UK on a “level four” warning, telling US citizens they should not travel to the country.

In May, the US government lowered the UK travel alert scale to ‘level 3’, suggesting seeking advice in an emergency.

The warning comes amid an increase in the number of cases already marring the UK’s so-called ‘Freedom Day’, a relaxation of pandemic-related restrictions that aims to herald the full reopening of a economy struggling for its deepest recession in 300 years.

the UK reported over 54,000 new cases on Saturday and over 47,600 on Sunday, more than Indonesia, the current global epicenter of the pandemic, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Local authorities are asking hundreds of thousands of Britons to agree to a 10-day voluntary quarantine.

As of March 2020, the United States has banned nearly all non-U.S. Citizens who have recently visited the UK from entering the country. Britain allows visits to the United States, but requires a 10-day quarantine on arrival and two negative COVID-19 tests.

U.S. officials and airline executives don’t expect restrictions on travelers from the UK to be lifted until August at the earliest, and warn that easing rules could be delayed further.

The CDC noted that all travelers should follow protocols such as wearing masks and maintaining a distance of at least 1.8 meters from other people.
