US Secretary of Labor, Alexander Acosta, resigned in the middle of a scandal for minors sex trafficking

In an unexpected appearance at the White House with the President Donald Trump, Acosta said that he called the president after considering that "the good thing was to withdraw".

Trump pointed out that Acosta was "a great secretary" and praised his "very good job" at the head of the Ministry of Labor, stressing that "It was his decision."

This resignation comes two days after Acosta defended his duties as a prosecutor at a press conference held ten years ago. when he entered into a controversial court agreement with Epstein, now accused for the second time of child abuse.

The billionaire, arrested earlier this month, was already facing charges of this caliber in Florida, but in 2008, he reached an informal agreement with the prosecutor's office, then led by Acosta, to close an investigation that would have resulted to a life sentence.

The agreement then agreed he envisioned that the New York mogul served a sentence of only 18 months in prison and will be part of the bad offender registry.

Despite this decision, the New York Attorney's Office again accused Epsteinwithout falling into double treatment, thanks to new evidence and testimony obtained in recent years.

Acosta, the only Latino in Trump's presidential cabinet, had badumed the position of Secretary of Labor in April 2017.
