US to donate 1 million doses of Pfizer vaccine to Paraguay

The United States has confirmed that one million doses of the Pfizer vaccine will arrive in Paraguay in the coming weeks against the coronavirus as part of the plan to help the American power to the rest of the world as part of the fight against the pandemic.

This was ratified by the US Under Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, who met the President of Paraguay on Monday, Mario Abdo Benítez, during a meeting that lasted about an hour, then with the Chancellor, Euclid Acevedo, in a working table to discuss the bilateral agenda.

After these meetings, Nuland and Acevedo held a press conference during which the North American official confirmed the shipment of one million doses of Pfizer to the Latin American country.

“In this context, I am very happy to be able to announce on behalf of President Biden (Joe) and the people of North America that we are going to donate one million doses of Pfizer vaccines to Paraguay”, Nuland said. He added that today the agreement of this cooperation was initialed for the transport logistics of which the two governments collaborate.

Nuland’s stay in Paraguay coincides with the start of vaccination for people aged 50 and over, with which should complete the first stage of vaccination, which includes the elderly and white staff.

The Ministry of Health is organizing the vaccination campaign by age group and according to the available doses, largely thanks to donations from other governments.

The South American country reached a new record of deaths from COVID this Sunday, a total of 152, two more than on Saturday, when the highest number in the daily record had been reached since the first cases occurred a year and a half ago.
