USA: A girl died of the amoeba eats the brain

Lily had contracted an infection caused by the amoeba Naegleria fowleri, a unicellular organism that lives in fresh and warm waters, lakes, rivers or ponds. This infection has a mortality rate of 97%. In the United States, only 147 cases have been recorded since 1962, only four of which have survived.

The amoeba is not transmitted through the skin or by accidental ingestion of water. However, it is lethal if this organism enters through the nose and reaches the brain.

The probability of contracting this infection in a sink is low, but this usually happens if you do not have adequate chlorine treatment. This type of organism occurs easily when it is very hot for long periods of time, which can result in high water temperatures and low water levels.

The American Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that symptoms begin to appear in patients between one and nine days after infection.

The infectious process has two stages: first, the patient begins to experience severe frontal headache, fever, nausea and vomiting; and in the last stage, he has severe neck pain, seizures, mental disorders, hallucinations and coma.
