NEW YORK (AP).
Fisher-Price will be recalling nearly 5 million bbadinet cribs after more than 30 babies returned to bed and died after 10 years.
"The Commission for the Safety of Consumer Products of
United States"
(CPSC) stated that anyone who bought a Fisher Price Rock n Play cradle should stop using it immediately and contact Fisher-Price to receive a refund or coupon.
Fisher-Price and the CPSC reported that the deaths occurred after the babies lay on their stomachs or sideways. They did not have the cradle belts placed.
In an article published this week, Consumer Reports magazine reports that some of the infants died of suffocation.
A warning was issued last week, but the American Academy of Pediatrics urged Fisher-Price and the CPSC to remove the chairs, which he termed "deadly".
In a statement released Friday, Fisher-Price said it was defending the safety of its products and having released the voluntary withdrawal "due to reported incidents in which the product had been used contrary to warnings and safety instructions."
The recall concerns about 4.7 million chairs sold between $ 40 and $ 149 since 2009.
