The National Assembly of Venezuela (AN, Parliament), a majority of the opposition, reported Tuesday that Uruguay had blocked the transfer of a millionaire fund that the government of Nicolás Maduro had tried to transfer from the bank Portuguese Novo to the accounts of the financial system of this country.

"This transaction could be stopped until now, thus protecting the resources of all Venezuelans and preventing their theft," said opposition representative Carlos Paparoni on Tuesday during the regular session.

According to the legislator, the Maduro government reportedly attempted to transfer approximately $ 1.2 billion to the República and Bandes banks in Uruguay.

These transactions, he added, were blocked by the Central Bank of Uruguay, which, he said, will communicate "in the coming hours" to the decision.

Similarly, he said that in 2019, the Uruguayan financial system would be subject to the review of several anti-money laundering entities and that the acceptance of this transfer of funds could determine that the country is designated as "not cooperating in the fight against money laundering".

On Monday, the head of Parliament, Juan Guaidó, who had been granted executive powers as president in charge of Venezuela, denounced this fact and warned that he would take "measures appropriate "to avoid transfer.

Tuesday, with the blockade of funds, the House fulfilled "the mandate of the people to avoid stealing the money of all Venezuelans".

On January 15, the Parliament asked 46 countries that did not allow the Maduro government to have Venezuela's resources on these territories.
