Video: A policeman kills a man at the school gate, in front of his 12 year old daughter – 01/29/2019

On January 11, Charles Landeros, a Filipino immigrant, went to the school of one of his daughters to try to solve a problem related to the legal custody of the minor. The school is located in the city of Eugene, in Oregon, United States.

In this context, two policemen who were in the institution asked the 30 year old man to leave, the father could not get in touch with him because he had lost custody of the child. The man thought that only the director had the power to force him to leave the campus of Cascade Middle School.

So he refused. Whether outside of school, at the door, Landeros fired a 9mm pistol and, according to the police, he shot twice at the location of one of the agents. The police officer, in his defense, shot the man in the head and he fell to the ground with his 12 year old daughter as a witness.

The conflict occurred after Landeros enrolled her daughter in school without warning her ex-wife, who was the only one able to decide which school the child should go to, what the authorities of the institution knew about.

The video of the incident shows how Landeros stopped responding to agents' comments about the fact that he had had to leave the establishment and, after seeing his daughter enter the hall, had shouted at him to leave.

Subsequently, the officer Aaron Johns pushed the father to the outside, followed by another officer, Steve Timm. Between Landeros and Johns there was a fight in which both fell. The father pulled out a pistol and fired twice at one of the police officers, but none of them was injured.

At that moment, Timm shot and fatally wounded Landeros in the head. According to Lane County Attorney Patty Perlow, Landeros' daughter and two other people witnessed the killing, which justifies the actions of the police for "self-defense".

Landeros' death sparked protests in Eugene, Oregon, both against and in favor of police actions. For its part, the Landeros family opened a parallel investigation to determine the causes of death.
