"But it did not reach the popular level until the anthropologist Luis Arochi announced the phenomenon (in 1974)," added the researcher of the Institute of Anthropology and history (INAH) of Yucatán.

Barrera Rubio, winner of the Medal Yuri Knorosov 2015 in Merida, explained that after the announcement, "Arochi published a series of books to disclose the phenomenon of light and shade and from there people began to sink to enjoy the Kukulcán descent every March 21st, coinciding with the birthday of Benemérito de las Américas, Benito Juárez and the Spring Equinox. "

The author and researcher however noted that visitors could observe the phenomenon two days before and two after the spring equinox, which had occurred on March 20, 2019.
