Richard Wilbanks (74) is a war veteran who jumped into the water Monday to save his dog from the jaws of an alligator in Florida, United States.
Wilbanks told CNN she was walking her cub near a pond when the reptile jumped out of the water and captured the animal. “He came out of the water like a missile. I never thought an alligator could be so fast, ”he says.
Florida Wildlife Federation cameras captured the moment the American is seen fighting off the alligator. After a few seconds of struggle, he manages to save his dog, without dropping the cigarette from his mouth.
The puppy, named Gunner, has been taken to the vet, and although he suffers from a stomach injury, he is in good health. “From now on I will walk him on a leash, three meters from the pond,” concluded the former veteran.
