A car that can spread its wings and become an airplane traveled a distance of 80 kilometers between the airports of Nitra and Bratislava in 35 minutes, a third of the time it takes by motorway, and then circulated like a conventional vehicle through the center from the Slovak capital. .

The car-plane hybrid “AirCar”, designed by Slovakian Stefan Klein, was the first such vehicle to land at Bratislava International Airport after traveling the distance at an average of 170 kilometers per hour.

“This theft ushers in a new era of dual transport vehicles. It opens up a new category of transportation and gives the individual the freedom associated with cars,” Klein said, according to a statement from his company. “The machine worked perfectly,” said the Slovak after piloting the two-seater between Nitra and Bratislava.

“After landing, with a single click, the plane turned into a sports car in less than 3 minutes”, explained the inventor.

In the images of the flight, we observe how the prototype flies accompanied by two light planes and after landing it folds its wings and tail to be able to travel on the road. The AirCar Prototype 1 is equipped with a 160 horsepower BMW engine with a fixed propeller and a parachute.

During the 40-hour flight, this aircraft reached a height of about 2,500 meters and a speed of 190 kilometers per hour. Four years ago Klein introduced the Aeromobil 4.0 prototype, which differs from the AirCar not only in its design, but also in the way it transforms from an airplane into a normal vehicle, which with the new model lasts less than three minutes. Then the vehicle travels by road from the airport to the center of Bratislava.

The designer has not given any clues as to when the AirCar will be on the market, which has yet to exceed 50 flight hours. This will be followed by a second prototype with slight design tweaks and more power, which will allow for greater speed.

Klein hopes to obtain the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certificate with this improved model.
