Among the treasures that Akihito bequeathed to Naruhito are included a mirror, the aforementioned sword and a gem, which, according to tradition, come directly from the goddess Amaterasu, who bequeathed them to his great-grandson, Jimmu, first emperor of Japan.

The ceremony of enthronement, during which the priests present the objects mentioned to the new emperor so that he badumes the command, dates back to the year 690, and always takes place privately: there are no photographs of the treasures, only speculative stories across the ages.

The rite is funded by the government, for which he has been criticized by experts as a possible constitutional violation of the separation of state and religion.

Akihito, the father of the current emperor, was the first monarch to take the throne after the Second World War, with a new constitution where the emperor was only a symbol of the people, without any political power.
