WASHINGTON – Democrats on Wednesday released dramatic videos of the Jan.6 attack on the United States Capitol. where Republican Senator Mitt Romney escaped the crowds just in time, while Vice President Mike Pence evacuated down the stairs.

On the second day of the process, lawmakers leading the former president’s trial released footage showing Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman running alone through the hallways in response to the crowds who had just stormed the building.

At one point, security cameras captured Goodman running down the hall and seeing Senator Romney, a staunch critic of Trump, walking in the opposite direction.

“Officer Goodman walks past Sen. Mitt Romney and tells him to turn around for his safety,” Virgin Islands delegate Stacey Plaskett said as she recounted the silent security footage. “On the first floor, just below them, the crowd had already started looking for the camera,” he added.

Goodman rushed up to the first floor and faced the crowd alone as the video showed rioters screaming and entering the Capitol.. Some of the protesters took fire extinguishers from the walls as they walked through the hallways.

In another revealing video of the drama, Pence is seen with a large group of people fleeing the halls as the crowds approach the chamber walls.

Videos of Romney, Pence and others set the tone for the second day of Trump’s impeachment, which began on Tuesday under the leadership of Democrats.

Romney was one of six Republican congressmen who are in favor of impeachment. But the figure of 67 senators that Democrats need to, in effect, condemn the former president is still a long way off, with 17 Republicans expected to vote for.
