The Weather Channel means that the hurricane is currently moving over the Abaco Islands and will continue to move west before heading north. "Residents of Florida's east coast must remain vigilant," warn the media, as the hurricane continues on the east coast of the United States, where it is expected to affect the states of Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama.

A few hours earlier, Denis Phillips, head of the meteorological department at ABC Action News on his Twitter account, had described Dorian as "the most powerful hurricane that approached northwestern Bahamas".

Previously, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported an increase in the power of Dorian, currently ranked in Category 5, as the eyewall of the hurricane approached the Abaco Islands.

He also warned that the region would be punished by intense gusts of wind accompanied by torrential rain that would last 30 hours or more.

"Seek refuge now! This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation!", Warned the NHC via Twitter, urging the inhabitants of the Abaco Islands not to risk their lives. In addition, a "catastrophic" storm surge of 5 to 7 meters is expected on these islands of the Bahamas because of the powerful cyclone.
