Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that dozens of people around him have tested positive for the coronavirus, forcing him to self-isolate since the start of the week.

“In my environment (…) there is not one, not two, but several dozen people who have fallen ill with the coronavirus”he said in a videoconference meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a regional military alliance.

Putin added that he must remain in segregation for “several more days”.

Tuesday revealed he had to isolate himself and cancel his participation in several summits after coming into contact with an employee sick with covid-19, and said he was relying on the Russian Sputnik V vaccine to escape the disease.

This advert this came at a time when Putin had recently re-participated in public events. Until a few weeks ago, the vast majority of his engagements were made by video, and the few people who could meet him had to undergo a period of isolation.

Russia is among the countries most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in terms of deaths and in fifth place in terms of the number of people infected, according to the report of AFP.

According to the Rosstat statistical agency, around 350,000 Russians died from COVID-19 at the end of July 2021.

On Tuesday, the Kremlin announced that the President, Vladimir Poutine, he was forced to self-empowerment when detecting cases of coronavirus in your environment.

At a government meeting, in which he participated by video, the president, who was vaccinated in February, said: “I hope that everything goes as it should and that Sputnik V demonstrates in practice its high levels of protection against Covid-19”.

Earlier, the Kremlin spokesman reported that “the president is in perfect healthHe added that Putin had been tested for the virus although the Kremlin did not disclose his result.
